Essence Yes, we POP! trend edition swatches and review
I'm a bit late showing you the latest essence collection oops but better late than never I always say! The Yes, we POP! trend edition is all about nail art which is on trend and right up my alley.
What they say:
"Unique, trendy and full of effects: with the trend edition “yes, we POP!”, essence is offering versatile products for an effect-gel manicure with a true wow-factor in November and December 2014. Nail art is totally hip right now – especially with these nail pieces inspired by the modern, colorful and catchy world of pop art. There are so many ways to decorate your popular high-shine gel-finish in a creative way now! Bright colours, nail toppers, cool effects, funny symbols or nail foils – they are all just waiting to be applied on your gel nails.
The basic products are absolutely essential for an exciting gel manicure – and for a limited time they’re available with an innovative 2in1 formula. With the 2in1 primer & cleanser and the 2in1 peel off gel base & top coat, it’s even easier to create your perfect gel manicure, which lasts up to 10 days. Of course, all of the decorations in this trend edition can also be used without a gel manicure – for endless nail styles!"
As always I like to start off with the polishes - my fave part of all essence collections! There are 4 bright shades in the Yes, we POP! trend edition and a confetti topper. With the cremes, I cannot stress enough that you MUST USE BASE COAT or wear a nude shade underneath as they stain like anything.
Hello Hipsters ($3.30) is a super opaque bright azure blue creme. Gorgeous! It applied easily like most other essence shades and dried quickly to a high gloss shine. 2 coats is pictured but you can definitely get away with just 1 careful coat.
Grab This Hype ($3.30) is a super opaque turquoise creme. My application wasn't very neat but it applied really easily and dried to a high gloss shine. 2 coats is pictured but you can also definitely get away with just 1 careful coat.
Confetti Topper in Bubble Gum ($3.75) is the confetti topper in the collection and contains bright pink hex glitters in a clear base. I found it really hard to apply as the glitters just would not grab onto the brush so they applied very sparsely on the nail. I tried the dabbing method but it didn't do too much for application. 3 coats is pictured over Hello Hipsters.
Onto the nail art products! I did a quick mani using all the products below:
The nail art designs - fimo ($5.20) come in 4 adorable designs - peace sign, bow, smiley face and cassette - that are pre-cut and come with a tiny tube of nail glue. I love pre-cut fimo so I don't have to do cut them myself but these are cut a tad thicker than what I normally like when I cut them myself. You can see that they don't really lay flush on the nail but for flatter nails they would work better. Here I also applied the dark blue pigment from the nail art effect set on the tip.
The nail art decoration kit ($5.20) contains round and square neon studs, sequins and caviar beads all in a nail wheel. There's a good mix of products to play with
The nail art effect set ($5.20) consists of neon yellow glequins and a dark blue nail pigment. The glequins are cute and easy to use but the nail pigment was SO messy I don't really see myself using it again. It was reasonably easy to use but I wasn't a fan of the effect as it sort of applied in clumps.
Nail art foils ($4.20) come in strips of blue, pink and yellow and are easy to apply. I didn't want to cover the base colour so I only pressed a small amount of each foil onto the nail for this effect.
Also included in the collection is a handy nail art brush ($4.80) that has a good sized rounded pink brush on one end and a small dotting tool on the other. The brush wasn't really that great at applying the pigment but I found it absolutely excellent as a cleanup brush which is what I use it for now.
The gel manicure tools include a mini LED lamp ($29.95), 2 in 1 primer ($5.85) and 2in1 clear peel off gel base & topcoat ($6.25):
Overall: A very cute collection! A bit hit and miss with some of the products such as the confetti topper and nail pigment but I love seeing more nail art products from brands available in mainstream stores. I'd definitely recommend the creme polishes, the nail art brush to use for clean up and the nail decoration kit.
Details: The essence Yes, we POP! trend edition is still available from Priceline and Target stores. I've seen it in quite a few stores recently so if you want to try the collection hop to it!
